Título: The Unsilenced Samba
Categoria: B01. Use of Music
Agência: Almap BBDO
Anunciante: AB InBev

Gonzaguinha faleceu e a canção nunca viu a luz do dia.

Sinopse em inglês: Antarctica is the beer that does the most to support samba in Brazil. The Unsilenced Samba is a project that resurrected “Céu-País,” a song by one of the biggest composers in the history of samba: Gonzaguinha. The samba had been censored by the military dictatorship because the lyrics were critical of the regime. Gonzaguinha died some years later, and the song never saw the light of day. Now, for the first time, the composition has been brought to life in an arrangement faithful to the artist’s style. Gonzaguinha’s voice was reconstructed as closely as possible so that his song could finally ring out across Brazil, more than 40 years later.

Brincadeira-vida? Céu-país?
Ei Deus
Mas terra estranha
Campos tão floridos de verdes bandeiras
Hinos de alegria
Dono-do-lugar-céu-país?
Esse é o culto ao novo super-homem? Será?
Grande herói a festa eterna dá?
Não existe mais a morte? Morreu afinal?
Eu também quero rir com você!
Pode um riso amarelo se abrir?
Olhos e ouvidos eu prometo esquecer…
Boca beberá do som de vocês!
Prometo tentar!
Ah! Mas é que eu aprendo tão mal…
Ei Deus
Mas será que é isso a felicidade
As perguntas mudas de barriga cheia
Passitividade!
Céu-país!

Tradução do spot para inglês: The lyrics to “Céu-País” (Heaven-Country) follow. In the words of the censor, it was banned because it “criticized the bourgeoisie as passive and complacent,” encouraging listeners to take action and change the nation.

Hey, God
What’s with these colorful people
Who’re never in a rush, even now
Playing-living? Heaven-country?
Hey, God
What a strange land,
Fields flowering with green flags
Hymns of joy, reigning over this heaven-country?
Is this the cult of the new superman? Can it be?
An eternal celebration for a great hero
Is there no more death? Did it die in the end?
And I want to laugh with you, too
Can a half-hearted yellow smile finally open?
Eyes and ears, I promise I’ll forget
Mouth will drink the sound you pour out
I promise to try, but ah! I haven’t learned much

Hey, God
Can this be happiness?
Silent questions from full bellies
Passitivity! Heaven-country!
Hey, God

Informações adicionais em inglês: Antarctica had to keep up its robust presence in the area of Brazilian samba, especially in Rio de Janeiro. With that in mind, we found a historical object – a recently unearthed samba that had been censored by the dictatorship decades earlier – which was tremendously relevant and which offered the brand an opportunity to step in and help. The Unsilenced Samba helped the brand maintain a strong stance in the eyes of its audience, which has traditionally loved samba, as well as helping to change the fate of a composition once fated to be forgotten.
